Days before a crucial festival appearance, aspiring teenage rock stars, Kyoto, Kei and Nozumi find themselves without a band when their guitarist injures her finger and their singer quits. Now, their only chance for superstardom lies in recruiting a new singer on short notice. They choose Korean exchange student Son (Doona Bae of Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance), though her comprehension of Japanese is rough.

Mild tribulations, some boyfriend-related, ensue before the rehearsal-exhausted quartet almost oversleep their big end-of-term-festival moment. After building a modest rep for Jarmusch-style deadpan comedies, Nippon helmer Nobuhiro Yamashita seems to be bidding for more mainstream success at home with Linda Linda Linda featuring music by Smashing Pumpkins’ James Iha.
