“The shop assistant knows me by now” – Notes from Vörösmarty

A small community evolves during the festival”, “The shop assistant recognises my face by now”, “we teach the people how to use the translating equipment” - answered venue volunteers to the question why it is good to work in Vörösmarty and what the festival atmosphere is like.

Although we haven’t had last year’s ’sinking’ experience yet, we have had extra-full house screenings already. For example, the Saturday evening screening of A Man’s Job has attracted such a big attention that many cinemagoers were literally begging to be admitted and were ready to watch the film sitting on the floor in the 120-seat cinema. The Finnish piece will have another screening at 6 p.m. on April 8th in Uránia cinema’s main hall, which is four times bigger than the former venue. The permanent staff of Vörösmarty truly enjoys the inimitable Titanic feeling, which is never short of surprises. The audience often asks shocking and unexpected questions, for example, “the size of the screen”, “the layout of the seats”, or “the distance between the screen and the first row”. We were also told that many foreigners visit the festival who seem to really adore the small Hungarian art venues. So why is Vörösmarty worth a visit? Because here the tickets are the cheapest, the films begin at reasonable hours in the afternoon and early evening, and there are screenings even in the morning during the weekends. The volunteers, who are wearing the green „Stáb” T-shirts this year, are ready to answer the most curious questions, and are happy to help out anybody in anything.
