Nordic music and crime stories are the winners of the Titanic![]() ![]() The international jury of three announced on April 13th in the Urania National Film Theatre that this year’s Breaking Waves Award and the requisite 10,000-Euro prize goes to Icelandic Baltasar Kormakur, director of 101 Reykjavik. According to their judgment Jar City collected the important cinematic elements such as remarkable characters, message, national flare, original approach and characteristic visuality. „Jar City is a criminal story which does uniquely balance real and ironic look inside contemporary Island.” said the jury. After the announcement Baltasar Kormakur himself could thank the prize by a live telephone connection from Sante Fe, where he is preparing his next film. ![]() The Festival’s audience also liked an Icelandic film the most. Sigur Ros: Heima, Dean DeBlois’ music film about the cultic Icelandic post-rock band received the best votes by a 4,78 average. Following the western 3:10 to Yuma the third and forth most popular movies are also music films - the Joy Division and the Girls Rock!
