Northern Lights at Titanic

hir_ID_AWithout question, Scandinavia is the most exciting region of today’s European film. Titanic International Film Festival has always paid a special attention to northern films; we were the first to screen Nicolas Winding Refn’s (Drive) earlier works in Hungary, for example.

Our Northern Lights section brings six special treats to the lovers of northern cinema. ID:A is a fresh and very spectacular Danish action movie, Pure features the wonderful future-superstar Alicia Vikander, and André Øvredal’s The Troll Hunter might be the most important Norwegian festival-export, as it has been a huge success at main film festivals throughout Europe. Those Who Kill – Shadow of the Past is a cinema version of a popular Danish TV series as well as a latest example of the excellent Scandinavian thriller. Undercurrent is an exciting claustrophobic drama with members of the well-known Vesturport theatre company. Indepted is the directorial debut by Hungarian-born, Finland-based Márton Jelinkó. The film will premiere at Titanic.

Akik ölnek

There are two further northern films in the festival’s competition section. Play is an insightful and troubling film about race, mores and manipulation. It is based on an actual incident, was shot entirely in long shot, and features exclusively children. Oslo, August 31st is a poetic story and a melancholic depiction of Oslo and a whole generation, lost in a fast moving world. Our Documentaries section hosts Danish Mads Brügger’s The Ambassador, a genre-breaking, tragic comedy about the bizarre and hidden world of African diplomacy, where gin-tonics flow on a daily basis and diamond hustlers and corrupt politicians run free. Last but not least, the Music for All section will screen the diary film The Extraordinary Ordinary Life of José González. It follows the eccentric Swedish musician, José González through intimate and unique scenes shot during work with his long-awaited second album In Our Nature.
