Multi-award winning Hungarian film director and screenwriter Miklos Jancso has died at the age of 92. He won best director award at the 1972 Cannes film festival for the Red Psalm, and in 1979 Cannes bestowed on him a lifetime achievement award.

Ádám Császi’s first full-length feature film, LAND OF STORMS, has been selected for the Panorama sidebar at the Berlin International Film Festival between 6-16 February. The Hungarian-German coproduction was developed and produced with professional and financial support of the Hungarian National Film Fund.

Réka Bucsi’s MOME Anim diploma film titled Symphony no. 42 has been selected for the short film competition of the Berlinale - Berlin International Film Festival. The ten-minute digital drawing animation was made at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest (MOME) with the support of the Hungarian National Film Fund.

Janos Szasz’ film, based on Agota Kristof’s world famous cult novel, Le Grand Cahier will be presented as a world premiere at the 48th Karlovy Vary IFF’s Main Competition. The Hungarian-German-Austrian-French co-production stars Piroska Molnár, Ulrich Matthes, Ulrich Thomsen and Orsi Tóth.

The event held between 5-13 April included 61 feature films and 13 shorts. The audience had the chance to watch the cream of contemporary films in 5 different venues, on 122 public screenings in Budapest. The festival, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, featured 10 films in the competition section, which competed for the Hullámtörők (Breaking Waves) Award . This-year’s winner is Lore, which won 8000 euros, thanks to the support of the Hungarian National Film Fund. The 20th Titanic achieved better results than the past years’ average, there were 10 700 visitors.

Australia’s 2013 Oscar Nominee, Cate Shortland’s LORE won the 20th Titanic International Filmfest’s Breaking Waves Award worth 8000 Euros, supported by the Hungarian National Film Fund. The jury, whose head was the world famous Jiři Menzel, awarded Mira Fornay’s MY DOG KILLER with a Special Award. The Audience’s Award was given to the Czech director, Petr Nikolaev for his film, LIDICE.

Dirk Rijneke and Mildred van Leeuwaarden, the producers of the Dutch film Silent Ones, visited Hungary for the festival screenings, and came to an agreement with the PARLUX Entertainment film distribution company. Silent Ones, screened at the 20th Titanic Filmfestival’s competitive section starring Orsi Tóth and Roland Rába will probably hit Hungarian cinemas this summer.

The 20th Titanic International Film Festival closes with the screening of Rufus Norris’ film, Broken. The English film drama is starring Eloise Laurence, Cillian Murphy (28 Days Later, Inception) and Tim Roth (Pulp Fiction, Four Rooms). Between 5-13th April 74 films were screened, including new works of established directors, debuting films of first-time filmmakers, numerous fascinating movies from lesser-known regions and a world premier as well.

Plan B’s first film, iLL Manors, which has received much attention in Great Britain, will be released on 18th of April in Hungarian cinemas. However on the 12th of April, Friday 9 p.m. Titanic Festival will screen the film in Toldi Cinema before its premiere, as a part of the festival’s Music For All section. After the screening a discussion will take place with the participation of Hungarian rapper Lil’ Tyson and poet Péter Závada.

We are in the middle of the 20th Titanic International Film Festival where we can find a selection of independent American movies again. The section called Living In America includes five features and one of them, How to Follow Strangers is a world premiere. After its screenings the audience can meet the director, Chioke Nassor. In the section the drama of a single mother with two teenage sons will run, a musical comedy, the story of a teenage girl who is in love with her brother and that of a female alcoholic school teacher. Until 13th April, the end of the festival, there is a chance to catch all the films of the Living In America-section.

Besides Czech gastronomy and the secrets of Staropramen, an exhibition of contemporary architecture will introduce Prague’s modern face to the visitors at VAM Design Center on 11th of April. The main attraction of the event will be the exclusive presentation of Jiři Menzel whereby he will reveal details of his new film.

Thanks to Staropramen, tickets bought for this year’s Czech-section films can be exchanged for a free pint of beer in Urania Cinema. So, anyone who watches a film of the ’Staropramen Beer Snacks’ section will be entitled to a pint of Czech beer in exchange for the pass received with the ticket.

20th jubilee Titanic International Film Festival kicks off with the screening of The Master. Between 5th -13th April in five venues the audience can watch 74 films including Hungarian-related features and international premiers as well. The two flagships of this year’s Titanic are the Irish-section, Emerald Island and Staropramen beer snacks, a selection of contemporary Czech movies. This year’s event brings a new section, The Bright Side that contains six hillarious comedies. There will be 10 films in competition for the Breaking Waves Award to be judged by the jury the head of which is world-famous Czech director Jiři Menzel.

The jubilee Titanic International Film Festival between 5-13th April will offer a selection of music-themed films again. In the Music For All section six documentaries, two feature films and one short will be screened. The audience can see an intimate musician portrait about Adam Green, a Grammy Award-winning roadmovie with Mumford & Sons, an incredible late-in-life rise of a 62 year-old soul singer, a guitar prodigy and his fight with the degenerative Lou Gehrig’s disease, a documentary about the Pulp, the history of UK record shops, a rock ’n’ roll swindle and Plan B’s debut thriller.
